Tiny Steps, Big Futures
A young mother was growing increasingly concerned about her 3½-year-old son’s behavior. He was argumentative and disrespectful toward adults, acting out at home, and his behavior had escalated to the point of starting a fire in his bedroom.
Determined to head off her son’s disrespectful behavior before it became entrenched, she turned to Imprints Cares’ Pediatric Parenting Connections (PPC) program for support.
Family Educator Kelly Timberlake began working alongside the family, listening to the mother’s concerns and helping connect them with a therapist who continues to see the child regularly. Together, they developed strategies the parents could use at home to provide consistency, set expectations, and help their son manage his behavior.
“This was a big turning point,” Timberlake said.
Over the following months the mom and her support team began noticing marked improvement. He took on responsibilities at home, was more respectful to others and was becoming a role model for his three younger siblings.
His mother remained committed every step of the way.
“I’ve seen that child really grow in the two years since I’ve worked with the family,” Timberlake said. “He was angry. Now he’s the happiest kid.”
What began as a mother searching for help became a story of transformation. With her determination and the right support at the right time, she was able to change the trajectory for her son and strengthen her entire family.
